Fish Camp by JasMania

July 29, 2023 7pm - 12am

830 E Chambers St

Milwaukee, WI 53212

Escape life. Nature is calling. Tucked between a sports bar and a mossy stone. Just beyond the reeds. The reflection of a full moon ripples. You've found it: Fish Camp.

For one night only. Cast your line. A pop-up pond. Worries left on the lily pad.

Fish Camp. When you're here, you're Out-Of-Office.

Jasmine McMasters/JasMania (b. 1992) is a performer and artist living in Austin, Texas. They use comedy, craft arts, and drag to explore themes of gender and queerness. They are part of the Boyz of Austin, the longest running drag king troupe in Austin, TX, and produce shows alongside their drag family that center trans and non-binary artists.

Full Moon Karaoke and Variety Show was started in 2015 at Company Brewing in Riverwest in Milwaukee, WI by host/organizer Star Sara (Sara Caron) with support from the owner, George Bregar and the Beer Endowment, and from two different co-hosts (first Spudd Butler and now Cosmic Kayle). This summer it's hosted at 830 e. Chambers st. with support from The Open Fund.

The project plays with the structure of a TV variety show, where you can count on seeing familiar characters, and you may be confused or delighted by something surprising. FMK is a way for artists and performers to test new ideas. On the Full Moon the relationship between the audience and the performer is fluid and playful and it changes all night. If you’re shy you don’t have to sing, but it is really fun.

Videoke Corner @Full Moon Karaoke and Variety Show

Videoke Corner

June 3, 2023

7:00pm - 12:00am

830 E. Chambers St. Milwaukee, WI

Full Moon Karaoke presents Videoke Corner, a curatorial project by Galia Basail Mulcahy (b. 1992) and Ulises Olvera Arroyo (b. 1992) both live and work in Mexico City. The event will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 830 E. Chambers St., made possible by The Open Fund.

Videoke Corner presents ongoing research about the cultural and geographical influences that shape the phenomenon of karaoke across the Mexican capital. Attendees will have an opportunity to engage with the project through archival materials, installation, and, of course, singing. As a testament to this comprehensive study, the curators will also release a limited edition book that encapsulates the essence of the project in a handy travel book format.

There will also be limited edition cassettes, mezcal cocktails, and snacks. Everyone is encouraged to showcase their singing on a custom-built karaoke machine, designed by the curators specifically for this event.

This project is a collaboration with the Mexico City art gallery and project space, compás 88 www.c88.mx

Benjamin Miller @FMK

After a long hiatus, please join me and co-host Cosmic Kayle -

Friday May 5, 2023

7-10pm

830 E. Chambers St.

Milwaukee, WI 53212

for karaoke and a featured performance by Benjamin Miller around 8:30pm and interludes by DJ Mia all night.

Benjamin Miller (he/they) is an artist, performer, tarot reader, and art therapist based in Santa Fe, NM. www.benjonmiller.com Ben says -

“In every person, there's a tree of alchemy waiting to unfurl, but sometimes our experiences thwart that tree's growth. Emotions and dreams get buried beneath knots of tension and ponds of dullness in the body. In my art, my wish is to notice where I sense these orbs of tension and existential constipation--then do what I can to bring openness and playfulness into those spaces. Art, music, movement, and group gatherings all have the power to catalyze that magical process. My hope is that my performances can give us a collective experience in which our shared energy can be liberated, even if only a little, from the constraints it may face in daily life."

With this event we’re celebrating the rebirth of spring and the reawakening of FMK after a long slumber. Of the astrological significance of this moon, Kayle says -

“The May full moon is often referred to as the Flower Moon. This yearly full moon happens when the Sun is in the sign of Taurus and the Moon is in the sign of Scorpio. The Taurus/Scorpio relationship is based upon sensuality, embodiment, and the cusps of life and death. Taurus represents the reawakening or rebirth of the Earth (Spring) while Scorpio brings us the quieting of the Earth and the beginning of The Long Night (Autumn). Flowers are not only a reminder of birth and life, but also reproduction and death. The flower holds the cycle of earthly existence- the joy of being and the reminder that we are just one part of a larger movement of cosmic change.

This Flower Moon also happens to be a lunar eclipse, which astrologically suggests a heightening of the releasing powers of a full moon. The Taurus (sun)/Scorpio (moon) lunar eclipse is a great time to examine one’s desires; where they stem from, how one might want to channel them, and what needs to be let go of in order to pursue the desires worth dedicating time to.”

Many thanks to The Open Fund for generously supporting this series. As always, expect high quality variety, karaoke all night, and impromptu performances of all types.
